Al jaren stond het op mijn lijstje: papegaaiduikers (Fratercula arctica) gaan fotograferen aan de Schotse kusten. In tegenstelling tot de meeste natuurfotografen deed ik dat niet op de Farne-eilanden maar ging ik naar "Isle of May". Samen met het gezin doorkruiste ik gans het land en ging ik natuurlijk eens kijken naar dat "monster van Loch Ness"...
It was already on my list for many years: photographing Puffins (Fratercula arctica) on the Scottish coasts. In contrast to most other nature photographers I didn't do it on Farne Islands but I went to "Isle of May". Together with the family I passed through the whole country and off course I went looking to that "monster of Loch Ness"...

Met de "May Princess" vertrekken we vanuit Anstruther richting Isle of May. Als we, na een uurtje, het eiland naderen zien we dat er duizenden vogels af- en aanvliegen. Het krioelt er van de papegaaiduikers maar ook alken, meeuwen, zeekoeten, noordse sternen, ...
With the "May Princess" we sail from Anstruther to Isle of May. When we come close to the island, after an hour, we see thousands of birds flying on and off the island. The island is full of puffins but also razorbills, seagulls, guillemots, arctic terns, ...
Ik kreeg ook de kans om enkele keren een visarend (Pandion haliaetus) te fotograferen, soms vlakbij duikend naar een vis en ik kon ook zijn nest (met 3 jongen) lokaliseren.
I also got the chance to photograph an osprey (Pandion haliaetus), sometimes nearby diving at a fish and I could localize his nest (with 3 young ones).
En verder nog wat mooie landschappen, de Schotse hooglander en één van de vele weides vol schapen.
And furthermore some beautiful landscapes, the Scottish highlander en one of the many meadows full of sheep.
